Putting the Unity Back in Community
The Boscombe Community Fair:
Hi there, my name is Ladybird (pictured right) and I am one of the founding members of the Boscombe Community Fair, now in it’s 14th year. We are a bit of a black sheep collective with many people coming and going over the years. We have had joyous births and sad deaths, hot sunshine and last year’s deluge, floods and wind.
We still all work for free (silly us) and have a yearly battle with all the rules and regulations, going from a one day to a three day event. But over time we have been the stepping stone to many a good idea. Sometimes a work of art, an excellent band that makes you move and quite a few small businesses, including a young man who used to come with his parents and now runs the main stage. We have a whole tribe of smaller folk, growing taller with the years who weren’t even a twinkle at the beginning.
There have been lovely unexpected times like the large (trying to be quiet!!) gatherings where we have enjoyed a singing session for workers after hours.
This year, we have had to downsize a bit, but we are going for a great band line-up, Art, Theatre, Kids & Healing areas, along with stalls and charities and our ever popular dog show.
SO COME, DRESS-UP, DANCE & ENJOY!
